The agricultural firm Le Carline, that has always been characterized by a virtuous behaviour toward nature, environment and earth, from which our organic wines come, now takes a step further: in these days we are installing a photovoltaic system. The solar photovoltaic power plant consists of 41.40 kWp and 180 modules, will contribute to self-generate energy, in quantities adequate to the business, maintaining the beautiful landscape that surrounds us through the use of a clean and renewable energy, there will be no production of polluting agents.

How does the solar photovoltaic power plant work?

Electricity production occurs when the panels process the sun rays. The panels will convert the received heat into electricity.

The system includes a series of photovoltaic cells electrically connected between them and distributed on the panels oriented perpendicular to the solar radiation as possible, an inverter and a counter. It will transforms the absorbed energy into electricity and will make it available to the user.

Le Carline makes this important investment to ensure a better future for the environment and our health. To do that it is essential to adapt one’s business to environmentally friendly and sustainable parameters .

Le Carline has been one of the first business to fully join to the methods of organic agriculture in the cultivation of our grapes ( as a matter of fact Le Carline started to work with “organic” methods more than 20 years ago) so it is now logical to invest in reducing the the environmental impact of our production processes.

Numerous and significant are the benefits arising from the installation of a photovoltaic system:

-Absence of any type of pollution emissions

-Saving fossil fuels

-The system is totally reliable because there are no moving parts (the estimated useful life of the plants is over 25 years)

-Respect for the environment

- It improves the company’s image

Le Carline really cares to be faithful to the organic production and use of clean energy as our company wants to offer the best to its customers who are attentive to ethical business choices as well as lovers of our fine wines.

The great thing about Internet is that you always know how to involve research, news and curiosity, and without noticing you will find yourself to click, click, click … fascinated by the ever-growing amounts of information.
And it’s a great satisfaction when, during the navigation into the web, you find accidentally a blog about wine that speaks to us and our DOC Lison Lison-Pramaggiore!

The blog is called “Wine Indulgence” and its authors are Dana and Paul, two professional sommeliers that work and live between Venice and New York.
They have created this virtual page for people who like them has a passion for good food and great wine.

On our Lison they wrote that after the first sip it invites you to drink another glass … if you want to follow their suggestion, Le Carline will be happy to let you know this typical wine of the DOC Lison-Pramaggiore, with the other organic wines of our’s production.

Here is the wine review published on the blog:

Le Carline, who have a beautiful plot of land for their vines near Stan Stino, just east of Venice, offer not only good wine but also good company, (the wife Diana took the sommelier class together with us). They make many types on wine, but I want to focus on one particular wine, their Lison. Lison, the new name for the old wine Tocai, now used only in Hungry, is a specialty of the area. Typically fresh, fruity and mineral, Le Carline are right on spot. A clear straw colored white, with aromas of peach, fresh mint, nut and a slight hint of bread or yeast, leading us to question also the slight tang on our tongue. Le Carline are organic, this meaning that the process in which they grow their grapes and make their wine follows strict regulations to be called so. Perhaps this is the reason for the slight bubble or bite?

Maybe it isnt filtered? Either way taste wise its just as good. Very refreshing, clean, crisp, smooth and easy to drink. It does lack that initial impact but once again I think its because there are no additives. A touch of bitterness at the end adds to the complexity of this Lison and overall invites you to drink more.
A good choice for the summer!

Vote 88/100

It’s with great pride that LE CARLINE communicates its double victory at BioFach 2010, in the international competition of organic wines: MUNDUSvini, one of the most prestigious and recognized competitions worldwide in the bio wine industry.

The Grand Prix MUNDUSvini BioFach International Organic Wine, sponsored by the Academy of Wine “MUNDUSvini Weinakademie Internationale” is a competition held in Germany for organic wines from all production areas of the world.

Our winners wines are: the Rosso Carline 2003 Veneto Orientale IGT and the Amicitia 2008 Veneto Orientale Bianco, which both obtained the qualification “Silver”.

The Rosso Carline is made from selected bunches of Cabernet Franc, Merlot e Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, whereas the Amicitia is produced by Chardonnay’s grapes.

The first one needs to mellow, at least two years, first in the barrels, then in barriques and finally it maturing in the bottle. It has a garnet red colour and a velvety and pleasantly bitter flavour.
While the second one it’s an elegant wine, it’s colour is straw yellow, it is slightly spicy and it ferments in small oak casks.

The evaluation was based on examining the olfactory and the taste of wines, as well as on individual allocation of points, in accordance with the lists of OIV ( International Organisation of Vineyard and Wine) and of UICE (International Union of Oenologists)

The jury asked to evaluate the wines are made by prominent professionals and competent in the tasting.

“This winning of LE CARLINE’s wines was particularly flattering because there were many organic wines in the race, over 480, mostly Italian.” – declares with satisfaction Daniele Piccinin – “Be rewarded at BioFach” – continues Piccinin – “the best show-case for the organic world, represents for LE CARLINE the possibility of stimulate the foreign trade and make known our quality. Moreover, this type of event, like the Italian Wine Week, from which we are recently returned, always represent a useful vehicle for discussion and debate among from producers, growers, importers and consumers.”

The agricultural firm LE CARLINE has returned from the event dedicated to Italian wines in USA: Vino 2010 – Italian Wine Week”.

The event has fully satisfied the expectations, with its high numbers of initiatives, meetings, seminars and tastings at wine store and restaurants. In this regard has been developing a collaboration between ICE (National Institute for Foreign Trade), and the best wine stores and restaurants of New York, to allow tourists to taste the best Italian wines coupled with typical dishes of the Italian regions present in America: Veneto, Puglia, Calabria and Toscana.

Particularly interesting for LE CARLINE was the possibility of setting up a “tasting corner” to offer the tasting of our wines, in the splendid setting of the Hilton Hotel in New York.

“I found a very good chance of relationship between our wine and the American costumer” – said Daniele Piccinin, owner of the firm – “this is certainly due to the high quality that has always characterized the producers of Italian wines. Then, introducing ourselves, to the US market, we are facing an interlocutor who trusts the proposed products and is interested in new flavours.”

The LE CARLINE’s wines presented at Italian Wine Week were: Lison Bianco DOC Lison Pramaggiore, Refosco DOC and Prosecco Spumante Extra Dry, which were very much appreciated.

Information about Saint Cristina isle, Venice, Red Ammiana vineyard
Le Carline is pleased to introduce the history of Saint Cristina isle where is produced Ammiana ,the only Venetian lagoon organic wine.In ancient times the isle has been a part of an isles complex outreaching Torcello. In the VII century a church and a monastery has been built by Falier family. The church created for the benedectine nuns, has been dedicated to Saint Mark but in 1325, when from Costantinopoli has been carried Saint Cristina’ s body, the name of the isle turned into the present one. The benedectine nuns sticked around the isle until 1340 when they retired to Murano taking with them the relic of Saint Cristina. The order to return to the isle was given to the nuns, where they remained until 1452, when even the last nun Filippa Condulmer received the licence to move into Torcello.( Saint’s body has been leaded up to Torcello and then to the church of Saint Francesco della Vigna in Venice). A period where the isle has been uninhabited for subsidence reason followed, but over the maps of 1572 belonged to Bartolomeo Fontello and of 1573 belonged to Cristoforo Sabbadino , the isle displaies three groups of houses named Saint Cristina, Saint Mark, Saint Anzolo.

The easter side of the isle, cultivated and peopled, has been keeped unaltered until the XIX century as showed from another map of the ‘600 and from a manuscript of the’ 700 .

At the end of the ‘700 the isle has been part of Dona’s family property and showed a deep farm exploitation with a defined water network.

The built texture has been composed by the Sunday house ,a beacon, a small brickwork house and an oratory.

News between XIX and XX century until 1921 has been provided to us by the Napoleonic ,Austrian and Austrian-Italian land register.

In the meanwhile that the isle has been cultivated and peopled the property structure changed.

During the period between 1930 and 1970 the isle has been lived no more steadlily even if there is a proof about a sporadic presence of tenant farmers.

From 1972 a private citizen began to recovery the isle .In 1986 the isle has been bought by Saint Cristina Society s.r.l. and still now is the owner .

They begin a rationalisation of farming and horticulture committed to technical specialists so to obtain the identification of farm.

Nowadays the isle is completely transformed , growing has been turned into organic farming and both for the rebuilding and for taking care in farm changeover , it’s possible to recognize like a valid example of reemployment of a lagoon isle to its original vocation .

Specification of Ammiana , red wine from Venice coming from organic farming

- Organic wine as distinctive segment for the trade
- EU to present new cellar directives for winegrowing in 2009
- Deadline for International Organic Wine Award entries: 17 October 2008
Some 2,900 exhibitors and again more than 46,000 trade visitors are expected at BioFach, the World Organic Trade Fair, and Vivaness, the World Trade Fair for Natural Personal Care and Wellness, in 2009. Organic wine moved into its new home in the Wine Hall 4A in 2008 and the world-leading exhibition BioFach again promises variety, quality and enjoyment in the growth segment of wine in 2009. 347 wine exhibitors from 23 nations presented their top wines from certified organic cultivation to an interested professional audience in 2008. Some 10 % more wine exhibitors are expected in 2009. Winegrowers from all over the world can present their fine wines for tasting for the International Organic Wine Award on 22-23 November 2008 and compete for one of the coveted prizes. The deadline for entries is 17 October 2008.

“The positive response to the new wine hall clearly shows that our decision to upgrade the wine segment was right. I am sure the most attractive aspects of organic wine will be available to experience again at BioFach in 2009,” says Udo Funke, Exhibition Director of BioFach and Vivaness.

Not only organic wine moved into the new day-lit hall at BioFach 2008; organic olive oil was also presented in the Wine Hall 4A. Here the visitors can taste and enjoy all the facets of olive oil again in 2009 and choose the winners in the second competition for the best organic olive oil at the Olive Oil Bar.

The thirst for organic wine knowledge can be quenched at the forum and on stage as part of the congress programme and the top gastronomes in the restaurant in hall 4A prepare culinary delights for the visitors. The winners of the BioFach International Organic Wine Award can be tasted in the Vinotheque, the tasting area of the Wine Hall. More information about the Wine Award is available at: www.biofach.de/wineaward.

More organic wine in catering and the conventional trade
The sale of wine from certified organic grapes is developing extremely positively despite increased costs for energy and food. The trend to organic wine can meanwhile be observed in all sales channels. The organic range has not only grown strongly in the classic supermarket segment. “Organic wine is also increasing in the catering trade and conventional wine merchants are now noticing a broad interest in organic,” says industry insider and wine importer Peter Riegel of Orsingen. Wine merchant Christof L. Pistorius of Saarbrücken also thinks similarly: “The fig-leaf mentality among wine merchants is making way for real interest and the image is now very good.”

Following the good response to their organic food ranges, large chains and discounters are taking a more long-term view of wine than before. “Organic has become a distinctive segment. It is also apparent that establishing the distribution of organic wines as wine brands is far more difficult. This is due mainly to the limited availability of the individual product,” explains industry expert and wine merchant Ralph Hintz of Traben-Trarbach. This should be changed now. Particularly in countries like France, Spain and Italy, large cooperatives or other grower associations exist that have converted sufficient vineyards to organic cultivation, but there are often not enough basic wines of convincing quality to provide an ample supply for the large chains.

Origin and fair trade gaining importance
More and more consumers would like to know where the wines come from and who produced them where and how. In the German trade, however, organic wine from Germany is not generally preferred. Spain and Italy are still expanding, whereas the demand for organic wine from France has had to accept slight drops. Wines from South Africa and from Chile and Argentina are selling very well, say experts. There is still some potential here in the classic organic shop, organic supermarket and the specialist trade and this could be utilized by overseas producers. The situation in the classic conventional retail food trade is partly different. “There is a strong demand in Germany, Italy, France and Spain in that order. Overseas countries and Eastern Europe are currently of no great significance, and Eastern Europe still lacks credibility among consumers,” says market expert Irene Becker-Volkmann of Hamburg. The fair trade issue is a major exception here. “The consumers’ awareness of fair trade has now also reached the wine segment in addition to coffee, bananas and chocolate, and especially fair-traded wines from South Africa have profited from this until now,” explains Dirk Haux of Radolfzell, supplier of wine to the conventional retail food trade.

Sales focus in the German trade: South European wines
South European wines sell best in the international organic wine segment in the German trade. Of the Italian wines, Prosecco, Pinot Grigio and Merlot end up in the shopping basket particularly often. On the other hand, the demand for wines from France is mainly for Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, whereas Tempranillo is especially popular from Spain. The leaders among the German wines are Riesling, Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Dornfelder and Spätburgunder, but Regent is also increasing.

Top quality and higher price segment catching on
In the meantime, organic wine has long been established in higher price segments too. “Wines costing around 10 EUR or more sell very well,” observes Peter Riegel. The most frequently sold wines, however, are in the up to 4.99 EUR category. With a few exceptions, the shelf prices of organic wines in the conventional retail food trade start at 2.99 EUR. More and more consumers also accept higher prices for wine of organic quality. German wines can even cost a little more, with prices up to
5.99 EUR.

New EU directive for aging in the cellar
In the field of certification, the industry is eagerly awaiting the EU decisions regarding the cellar directives for organic wine, which are planned for 2009. Industry insiders hope these will be based on the rather strict regulations of associations like Ecovin, Bioland, Naturland, Bio Austria, Bio Suisse or Nature et Progres. The EU authorities could also orientate the new guidelines to Demeter or Biodynamic®. At the
11th general meeting of Demeter International in Austria this year, 30 representatives from 17 countries, including Argentina, Brazil and New Zealand, approved minimum criteria for certified biodynamic wines with the Demeter label. The directives focus on the most natural vinification possible. The addition of sulphur and sugar have been controlled and the possibilities of acid regulation defined out of consideration for worldwide biodynamic winegrowing and climate differences.“
